Termite Candy, Wallander Sofa

Carpenter and designer Blu Frankel founded Termite Candy in New York in 2024, building a furniture practice around the expressive qualities of wood.

Exposed joinery, natural grain, and intentional irregularities reveal the construction of his pieces and the character of their materials.

The Wallander Sofa combines cherry and white oak framing with Japanese pine paneling and live-edge hardwood armrests. An oil-wax finish brings out the variations across the wood. Integrated LED lighting shines through the slatted pine and central Japanese silk panel.

Upholstered in Nobilis Borneo, its velvet palm motif draws from 1930s decorative textiles, set against an irregular herringbone weave reminiscent of Indonesian raffia basketry.
