Rachel Hayes, Gold Sounds
Oklahoma-based artist Rachel Hayes bridges sculpture and architecture through bold color and geometric abstraction.
Her large-scale textile compositions interact with natural and built environments, transforming repurposed nylon, polyester, and cotton into expressive arrangements of color, texture, and form.
Echoing the installations of Christo and the quilting traditions of Gee’s Bend, Hayes embraces visible stitching, frayed edges, and irregular forms. Gold Sounds extends this exploration across a thirty-foot textile composition.
A recipient of the Joan Mitchell Award in Painting and Sculpture, Hayes has exhibited at SculptureCenter in New York, the Everson Museum of Art, and the Nevada Museum of Art. Her collaboration with Italian fashion house Missoni culminated in a solo exhibition during Milan Design Week. International installations include Contemporary Istanbul and NOMAD Capri.
