Ben Tuna, 1956 BMW Isetta Bubble Window

Inquire

Los Angeles–based artist Ben Tuna is a second-generation stained glass artist whose practice spans architectural glasswork, lighting, and sculpture. He learned the craft in his father Mark’s studio, Glass Visions, founded in 1979. Now leading the family business as Glass Cowboy Studio, Tuna brings traditional techniques into unexpected forms.

His Resurrection series combines vintage automobiles with stained glass salvaged from decommissioned churches. Working intuitively, he cuts and assembles fragments by hand, creating new compositions within the vehicles’ window frames.

Following the 2025 Los Angeles fires, the project expanded to include burned cars, preserving traces of their history alongside the intricate glasswork.

Recovered from the Palisades Fire, this BMW Isetta Bubble Window brings that approach to a distinctive example of postwar European design. Originally developed by Italian manufacturer Iso and later adapted by BMW, its rounded body and panoramic window openings become a setting for stained glass.
