Tony Evans Ceramic Raku Vase
Tony Evans Ceramic Raku Vase, Evans Ceramics, Vintage, 1980s Pastels, Signed, Numbered. The renowned California potter made this rare and unique studio pottery vase (1942-2009).
Evans was born in Wales and became an engineer, scientist, professor, and artist. He taught at many top American universities, Harvard, Princeton, Berkeley, and UCSB. This piece is from his Ancient Sands Collection. His pottery was made to look like ancient relics from the desert, sea, and past civilizations. He used the raku process to achieve this.
This vase has a volcanic raku surface in pale blue, pink, and orange tones with a glossy drip glaze. Evans' work is exhibited and collected internationally, and he has won numerous awards for his ceramics. His studio in rural Wales is open to the public where visitors can see his works in progress.
